Growing up in South Texas, I always had a dream that I’d become a rodeo star. We had 28 acres and, while I raised hogs for 4H livestock shows, and we leased our land for cattle, we never really had a farm or ranch ourselves. I really wanted to ride bulls, but it just never came to fruition. During a recent trip to Montana, I took the family to a rodeo on our last night in Bozeman. We had a great time and ever since, we’ve been on a rodeo binge.
We’re watching PBR every weekend and I actively seek out rodeos in our area. This gallery will hopefully capture some of the fun and excitement and encourage you to seek out some rodeo events where you live. It’s a great family activity.

This was a great little event about an hour away. There was a good selection of events and we enjoyed the bonus events like the calf scramble and steer dogging. The kids did a great job with the muttin' bustin' as well.
Muttin' Bustin'
These kids really held on for dear life. Not everyone made the full ride, but the excitement on the faces of those that did was well worth it. The grins went from ear to ear.
Da Bulls
I have to admit something. I struggled as the night went on. The lighting in the arena was much darker than I'd anticipated. I found myself bumping the ISO to 64000 and still struggled to maintain a decent shutter speed. I ended up giving up at intermission so we'll see what the next event looks like.
