Who Is Fotomonkey

I first got involved in photography as a hobby in the early 90s. I was a young sailor and knew that if the US Navy was going to be sending me around the world then I had better get a camera to record the moments. I ended up with a great collection of photographs from beautiful places like Spain, France, Malta, and so many more. That first Canon Rebel served me well and was a great camera for what I was trying to accomplish.

Fast forward many years later and I decided to shoot professionally. While I was known to do a wedding here or there second shooting was really what I preferred. I loved paying attention to the detail shots and not worrying about Bridezilla. Sports really became my main focus, though. I thoroughly enjoyed youth sports and although I have shot NCAA football and softball I took the most pleasure in shooting U5 soccer. The pure joy and fun those young children display makes capturing the moments very enjoyable.

With the birth of my own child I decided that I was spending too much time away. Well, it took a couple of years. Once he was at an age to actually know whether or not I was there I hung up the vest and put the cameras away.

Now that he’s several years older I’ve decided to pick the cameras up again. It feels good to have the camera in hand again and I’m looking forward to recording some great images.

Platform-wise, I’m pretty agnostic. I still have several Nikon bodies along with Sony and Fujifilm. I also shoot both film and digital so you may find me out with a Nikon or Yashica film body. Likewise, I shoot 35mm and medium format so you might spy me with my Mamiya 645. Or you might catch me with one of my film or digital Leica bodies. If it takes pictures, I’ll use it.

So there’s my story. Hopefully as I start to fill the hard drive with new images you’ll find something that speaks to you as it did me.
